I took this picture a few days ago.
We haven’t had much snow and we seem to get MORE birds than ever.
We have so many little ones that they cover the ground under the feeders but this day the feeders were a little low and they attracted the larger birds while the little ones fed off the ground.
The black & white one is a Downy Woodpecker….about 5 or 6 inches tall and we have TONS of them here.
There is a larger member of the same family called a Hairy Woodpecker about 2 inches taller with VERY similar coloration.
The bird that is rose coloured is…..surprise…a Rose Breasted Grosbeak and we have lots of them as well AND about 3 more brightly coloured Grosbeaks of a slightly different species.
I liked this picture because there weren’t too many birds in the picture and the beauty of them is made clearer.
By the way the picture isn’t ‘crooked’….the feeder stand was bent by a Bear last spring and hasn’t fully recovered….I straightened it but there is now a permanently weak place where the bend was and it sags over time.
